Araluen

Josh Wood

Josh has been working in Araluen’s studio for almost three years. His early interest in hand modeling with clay has evolved into low-relief sculptural collage creations. Josh is constantly inventing. He rarely uses a brush, preferring to apply colour by dipping torn paper into a mixture of acrylic paint and PVC glue. He builds textural layers using any found material that catches his eye such as tissue paper, wallpaper, newspaper, cardboard coasters, leaves, twigs and string, finishing with a graffiti-like flourish of aerosol spray paint. The work often takes on an urban edge – the impression left is commonly of a much covered wall, peeling, weathered and worn by time and revealing snippets of the past peeking through multiple layers.

Achievements:

Josh’s work was selected to appear in the “Connected11” Art Award and Exhibition in 2011.
